A clean swing is crucial if you’re going to dominate the green, and PGA Tour 2K21 just got a little smoother as part of a post-release update. The game now runs at 60 frames-per-second, and while we haven’t been able to test the performance on a standard PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro, we can confirm that it’s transformative on the PS5 with backwards compatibility.
This is all part of the game’s next major update, which introduces the second Clubhouse Pass. For those not familiar with the golf simulation, this is effectively a Battle Pass, which unlocks cosmetics and gear as you progress through it. There’s a free tier with a handful of rewards, but if you cough up a bit of cash you’ll be able to claim the contents of all 75 tiers.
There are also a new course available to everyone for free: the Bay Hill Club & Lodge. As the press release introduces: “The location is home to the prestigious Arnold Palmer Invitational, which is one of only five tournaments given invitation-only status by the PGA TOUR. The Bay Hill Club & Lodge was created by legendary designer Dick Wilson and later renovated by Arnold Palmer himself.”

I can’t believe they’ve turned golf games into having battle passes. Remember the old Tiger Woods games when apparel gave you stat boosts and you unlocked them all through gameplay?
I actually forgot about this game. Maybe I'll pick it up since it probably dropped on price since release.
@Arugula At this rate, Mario Golf will be a more worthwhile golf simulator.
This is half price on PSN UK at the moment
If you are looking for a more "arcadey" golf game. "Everybody's Golf" is really, really good.
If you want a simulation, "2K-21" is excellent!
@nessisonett yeah the old tiger woods games were superb for a while.
It’d be nice if we just got a graphically updated version of those old games tbh...
@nessisonett I was initially interested in this until I got to the Battle Pass BS. Hard pass now. Shame this is the greedy direction they have gone
@nessisonett You mean back when those games were actual games? Yeah, I remember those days. Those were good days.
To be honest i've not noticed any difference in the game and i have played this game a hell of a lot since launch..i am not saying you are wrong sammy but the difference if any not that much of an improvement..
@get2sammyb "while we haven’t been able to test the performance on a standard PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro"
Another PS4 game with no idea what it's like on the PS4 that it was written for? C'mon guys, even just a paragraph would be appreciated!
I might be wrong but the micro transactions are purely cosmetic so I can’t see how there is a need to get involved or why they’d stop you from playing the game.
That said unless the game is free in the first place (war zone or fortnight) I think micro transactions should be a no. It’s the future of gaming though so unless you only want to play retro games you’re going to have to get used to them being there.
@mastrz the micros t's are only cosmetic and dont give any kind of advantage at all..you dont need to purchase the pass to enjoy the game and it dosnt detract anything from the game..its a damn good game as it is and playing it on the ps5 yes is very nice but its not as "transformative" as is being made out here..rose tinted glasses is a phrase that springs to mind..
@Slippship take 2 have not ruined it..yes they have shoved a micro transaction system into the game but i am glad that a independant studio like hb have been given the cash injection this will provide to make sure that future golf club games happen..i own all the golf club games and this is by far the best of them so i fail to see how they have ruined it..
@Slippship if you have read any of my previous posts about micro transactions you will know that i'm not for them...if people want to use them its their choice..i myself will only use them if its something that i think is worth while to me..i am well aware that take 2 will take the lions share of the money but my point was that hb studios will benefit a heck of a lot by having take 2 behind them..i cant wait for a proper bona fide ps5 update for this game..
@sanderson72 Do really appreciate the feedback on this, and it's not being ignored at all, but it's not always time effective to download a 25GB game and play a few rounds for a news article that's barely been read 2,000 times!
Unfortunately, we're a small team, and we have to pick our battles. But I hear you!
@get2sammyb you mean it’s been read 2K times
@Bondi_Surfer
Hahaaa (insert Family Guy ostrich)
@get2sammyb so just to be sure (i had to as golf is my sport) i reinstalled pga2k21 on my ps4 and played a few rounds...then i played the same amount of rounds on my ps5..6 on each and the same course...and yes the ps5 version is smoother but not by an amount that i would say is "transformative"...where i found it to be most noticible was when i was putting and that felt more fluid..i want to stress that i am not trying to be an ***** here and i really would like the game to have a had a huge boost on the ps5 but unfortunatly this one is not it..
Hate battle passes. And yes I did have the clubhouse pass 1 for this game because I decided to try a pass once in my gaming and will never again. Cheesed me off because I was only 12 levels away from getting all the gear, was still a grind. And yet even with purchasing the pass if you don't finish it you lose it. If you purchase it and it ends they should let you have the remaining stuff you missed. You pretty much pay to grind a game.
@Digit2021 did not know that you didnt get to keep what you unlocked via the season pass if you didnt complete it as i didnt buy it so i couldnt comment on it and yes i know i defended the mt's in this but i did state everything was cosmetic and not stat boosting so i chose not to..this goes to show that if 2k pursue this business model then it needs to change massivley as it appears money is being spent with nothing to show for it in the end...very bad form..
@Slippship 👍
Bought the previous incarnation when the Golf Club 2 and have to say that runs better on PS5.. Smoother framerate (still not perfect) and still pop in but better overall. Steered clear once microtransactions were in. Which is unfortunate but I dont need extra flannel with golf games.
Everybody's golf is fun, but I hark back to the old PGA tour games on Megadrive or even further back, Leaderboard..
@dellyrascal - leaderboard was a classic. i don't think i've played any PGA games, since tiger woods 2012 (or maybe 2011) on PS3. everybody's golf is fun, but i do wonder if there is somehow rampant cheating going on when you look at the leaderboards.. it seems as if somehow people have got a hole-in-one at every single hole on a course.
@leucocyte Yeah the leaderboards tend to be borked nowadays... i used to think i was decent until i saw them..
What is it? Git Gud
